Summer Term 2016
Welcome back Class 2
to an exciting Summer term.
Our topic is -
What is the Tudor Rose?
We hope you enjoy looking at our animations, photographs and films of some of the things we have done this term. We will continue to add to the page as the term progresses. Mrs Veronica White
Visit to Buckland Abbey
We had an excellent trip to Buckland Abbey where we learned all about Sir Francis Drake and what it was like to live during the Tudor times.
Animation - Hansel and Gretel
We have designed animations of well known stories. Enjoy the dramatic scenes we have created!
Look on the Animations page to see all our animations.
Sir Francis Drake
We learned about his life and achievements.
We searched the playground and field for minibeasts. We were delighed with the number of different specimens we found. We carefully put them back in their habitat when we had finished looking at them.
Our film will help us to remember what prepositions are!
We have used recipes from Tudor Times to make both savoury and sweet dishes.
BIG SING AT TRURO CATHEDRAL
Class 2 and Year 5 sang wonderfully at the Big Sing in Truro Cathedral. Thank you to all the parents who came to hear the concert. It was a wonderful experience for the children who had been rehearsing with Charlie Murray from the cathedral choir. The children sang three songs as a class and 2 songs as part of a 'mass' choir with two other schools.
We also went into the crypt to see some of the clothing worn by the bishop and others in the cathedral.
Winners of the Inter-School
Area Sports at Liskeard
We took part in the Inter-schools sports event at Liskeard on Monday night with 9 other schools. Duloe School achieved first place - we were delighted with the commitment and effort put in by everyone. We won a shield which is on display in the school.
Loop the Loop Heritage Project
As part of the Loop the Loop Heritage project Class 2 dressed up as Victorian travellers and went on a train ride from Liskeard to Looe and back again. We saw a model railway and a film about the railway. We visited Looe Library and had a talk from Jamie about the library.
We met cartoonist Nick Brennan who created a giant cartoon on the Liskeard station platform.
Nick Brennan - Cartoonist
As a follow up from the Loop the Loop Project Class 2 were given the opportunity to work with Nick Brennan, a cartoonist with the Beano. He kept the children engaged for over two hours creating wonderful images, no one wanted a snack break or playtime!
- Elektra's cartoon
- Phoenix's cartoon
- Joshua's cartoon
- Gracey's cartoon
- Mia's cartoon
- Clover's cartoon
- Kayden's cartoon
- Jessica's cartoon
- Freddie's cartoon
- Charlie's cartoon
We created our own cartoons when we got back to school based on being in a railway station.
We took our violins to Liskeard Town Hall on Sunday 22nd May and performed, with several other schools, to a large audience. Mr Montgomery-Smith led the performance of five pieces - we received a wonderful applause.
Tudor Day June 24th 2016
Tudor day has been a great success. The children and staff dressed up in wonderful costumes, played games, cards and learned Tudor dances.
Class 2 had the opportunity to listen to and take part in a workshop, at Hillfort School, with the Dante Quartet. This had been arranged by Mr Montgomery-Smith, our class violin teacher. The children played their violins with children from other schools. This is a joint performance of Pachelbel Canon.
Thank you to Archie's mum for helping children from Class 2 and 1 do the flower arrangements in St Cuby's Church. They look beautiful. Lots of families brought in flowers to add to the displays. We hope you get a chance to see them.
Mrs Husk's Visit
10 years of assemblies at Duloe
On Wednesday 6th July Mrs Husk came to school to do assembly, as she has done regularly for the last 10 years. She always engages the children with stories and activities.
She also spent some time with Class 2 who asked her lots of questions about being a Methodist. She was asked about favourite hymns, stories and prayers. She told the children about how and why she became a Methodist and explained about services and beliefs.
