Autumn Term 2018

Welcome back to another school year and a special welcome to all of our new Reception children.
This term our topic is 'Charles Dickens - Who is he and why is he important to Britain?' There will be lots of opportunities to explore what life was like during the Victorian era and to find out about Charles Dickens and other significant people.

We look forward to showing you some photos of some of our work as the term goes on!
Phonics, reading and spelling
We follow the jolly phonics scheme to teach phonics which involve actions and rhymes.
Please support your child in their learning by helping them to learn their new phonic sounds and their spellings as this will feed into both their future reading and writing.
Please try to encourage your child to read as regularly as possible.

Phonics play is a great website which we use in school that can support further phonics reinforcement.
It won't be long until our creative days start and we will be learning about the toys of Victorian children, the art work of William Morris and Lowry and this will be embedded with our whole school trip to Morwellham Quay.
