Class 3 Autumn Term 2016.
Welcome to the Class 3 page. As the term continues we will record just some of the investigating, creating, designing and problem solving we will be doing this term. Below you will find the Class 3 homework page.Mrs Veronica White
Our science work this term is about the Solar System. We have made posters, with facts and illustrations, about the planets in our Solar System.
Visit from The National Grid
On Thursday we were visited by Ellie and Simon who told us about the work of the National Grid and what they have been doing in Cornwall over the last year. We learned how electricity was transported and how the teams worked safely on the plyons from David and did experiments with Galactic Georgie and Professor Kay!
The next day back in class............
We completed the live wire challenge.
Trip to Merrivale on Dartmoor
Class 2 and Class 3 has a fantastic day on the moors. We saw stone rows, cairns, kists, menhir stone, stone hut circles and stone circles. The weather was kind to us - very wet underfoot but not too cold. We did measuring, compass, drawing and literacy activities while we were there using the site as a stimulus.
Extreme Homework!
Felix, Monty, Charlie, Freddie, Danny and Archie built a Stonehenge model in the garden with Felix and Monty's dad and Archie's dad. A truly amazing achievement.
More Homework .........
Superbly creative models of Stonehenge made from a wide variety of materials - lego, clay, playdough, ginger bread biscuits, papier mache and wood.
Macmillan Cafe Afternoon.
School Council suggested having a cafe afternoon in school to raise money for Macmillan - families very generously donated lots of cakes and biscuits. There was so much left over there was a cake sale after school. £122 was raised.
French Food Tasting
During their French lesson Class three enjoyed tasting a wide variety of foods including different French breads, cheeses and meats. Most people thought everything was delicious.
Harvest Festival
This year's theme was based on the Harvest from the Trees. Each class took part with poems, their own writing, drama, song and dance. Class 1 sang about Harvest Rock and Roll, Class 2 read their Autumn poems and Class 3 talked about the Miracle of the Harvest and performed an interactive poem called Trees. The school community made a very generous donations to the local Foodbank - a large collection of goods was on display at the back of the church.
Futsal Tournament
Class 3 took part in the futsal tournament at Looe Academy. They had great fun and played 4 games. Futsal helps players to improve skills and co-ordination. The rules are similar to football but there is no offside rule and the ball must never go above head height. The futsal ball is heavier than an ordinary football.
Mike Willmott, an experienced astronomer, explained the operation of the Magic Planet system to all the classes in the school. The children were fascinated to 'see' the planets, the moon and the sun. They talked about the seasons, night and day and the phases of the moon. The children were given the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
Visit to the Foodbank in Liskeard
Our families donated a large amount of food to the Liskeard Foodbank as part of our Harvest Festival. Mrs Hughes took Courtney, Jack, Emmie and Kayden to the Foodbank to deliver the food. Following weighing everything,  they discovered that the donation amounted to 65kg of food. They asked lots of questions  and were able to tell the rest of the school about their visit in assembly.
Children in Need
Everyone dressed in pyjamas and dressing gowns for Children in Need and families were once again very generous with donations. Thank you everyone.
Anti Bullying Week
During Anti Bullying week we thought about how bullying affects people, why people bully and ways of combating bullying. We wrote poems and made Kindness posters which are displayed around the school. You can read some of our poems and posters below.
Advent Wreath
In Class Three we have made a wreath ready for Advent. We know what each part of the wreath symbolises and why Advent is an important part of the Christian calendar.
Sporting Achievement
Class 3 has taken part in several sporting events recently. We have had a swimming gala at Duloe Manor - where we go swimming every Monday. They have completed Bikeability Level 2 with Jenny Nash and achieved 2nd place in the inter school dodge ball competition at Looe Academy.
